Is it REALLY "The Economy?"
If I gave you $100,000 dollars WHERE would you spend it? It’s a great question that I feel deserves a good look and no one seems to be talking about it (so I thought I would bring it up here). Why? Because so many people are blaming it on “the economy” and I just feel like that’s a LIE!
Look… there is no question that we are ALL getting a certain amount of money from somewhere, the only question is… WHAT are WE doing with it?
So back to my question on what you would do if I gave you $100,000 (or EVEN $1,000 or $500 for that matter).
Where would you spend it? Who would you spend it on? WHAT would you spend it on? I had a great discussion with a close friend about the importance of VALUES, and how it determines where money is being spent REGARDLESS of “the economy.”
A few unconventional insights on this:
1 – Whatever you VALUE the most, is where you will spend your money first. If the people in charge of running your state values education, ANY/ALL money coming in will most likely go there FIRST (over new roads, increasing the minimum wage, healthcare, etc). Why? It’s what THEY value as most important.
Now if they value wealth as the most important value (as some do), they will look to squeeze as much money into their pockets FIRST and foremost no matter the cost.
Solution? Find out the CORE values of someone before you give them your money or time. Not sure? All it takes is spending a few hours with someone to see HOW they treat people and WHAT they do with their time that SHOWS you MUCH more than what they tell you.
2 – I’ve recently heard that some companies are not giving annual raises/bonuses EVEN THOUGH they are “doing well” BUT use the “because of the economy” excuse to prevent them from rewarding their employees. Without knowing anything about their company, what do you think they VALUE most? I don’t have to say much here, do I?
3 – Someone else told me how their employer uses scare tactics to “scare them into working harder” BECAUSE they know they won’t find work elsewhere “because of the economy.” What do you think this place VALUES? Do they even have any? Lets see how many people they lose when “the economy” turns around. Then what would be the excuse for EVERYONE leaving this type of company, because the employee’s VALUE respect OVER fear of losing their job?
I think we really need to look deeper into thinking “the economy” has been the REAL problem these last few years, because each one of us has a certain VALUE system that dictates where and how we spend our money.
As a resident of Southern California, millions of dollars each MONTH goes somewhere to pay someone for something… I just want to know who gets it and what they VALUE the most. Tell me that, and in my opinion, you tell me that the REAL problem with “the economy,” is in YOUR VALUES, nothing else.
