When Good Isn’t Good Enough
I meet a lot of people who have “good” web sites. You know these people because they provide “good” services for “good” people.
The only thing is “good” sucks!
It’s true.
Now I know someone might of been offended by that, but that’s only a problem if you feel you’re “good.”
Know how I know this? Because “good” didn’t work for me either – but there’s still a ton of it around!
The reason being is because more people are getting let go from their place of employment – and because of that disappointment, they go and start their own business. However, just because you have a “great idea” doesn’t mean you’ll make “good” money doing it. I certainly know how that goes – because there’s a lot more to it than, “I have a great idea. I should start my own business because working a ‘regular job’ sucks!”
When talking to new clients I take on, the one of many thing I try to work with them on first is their USP (unique selling proposition). It’s all about what makes YOU different than all the other people out there doing what you do. What is it about YOU that no one can copy? No one can duplicate. No one has the ability to do that you can.
For me, it’s my fucked up unique background in working over 30 different companies to fund my own businesses (in just about every industry). What separates me too, is that I can take complex ideas, and sift it down to a few great words that get people’s attention. Get them to act. Hit emotional buttons, then create a rapport with people that says, “I love this person. I want to do business with them.” And the people that I don’t get that reaction from… I don’t work with.
I also have a background in behavioral psychology, creative writing and music – launching my very own products for over 15 years (creating sales pages, web sites, product launches, flyers, promotional materials, cd launches, book launches, etc)…
I mean how much more screwed up unique does that get? LOL! But seriously…
Go ahead and Google any “Copywriter” out there (as I did a while back) and see for yourself. As far as I’m concerned (and you can do a split screen) – it doesn’t compare. I know. As I began studying some of the best in my field, I did a lot of this research myself (which you should do too). Then just ask yourself, “What’s different about me? Why would anyone want to do business with me over all the other people that do what I do out there?”
That’s why I turned away more people my first month in business, than people I actually took on. So listen…
This isn’t about bragging. It’s to tell you that you need to find out what’s your USP. What’s unique about you? Why should we choose you over the hundreds, maybe even thousands of others out there that do what you do? Who’s going to help you find this out and actually turn it into words that talk to your customers? Get them to want to do business with you? Engage them in a way that no one else can?
Then ask yourself more questions. Go deeper. More in depth and start finding out…
How do you communicate to your core group of customers? Does it help you stand out from the noise or just add to it? Is it in alignment with your vision? Your brand. How can you communicate this in a way that isn’t boring? Is “you.” Is something that connects emotionally with people?
Know why I ask that too? Again, because “good” just isn’t good enough anymore! Prove me wrong… but I’ll tell you this… the amount of hours you’ll spend doing what I do AND ABSOLUTELY LOVE DOING, isn’t worth losing anymore money over. Why do I say that?
Because “good” will put you out of business. Being “KICK ASS” will help you build it!

The Difficulty Of Being Different
I’m going to be honest with you, I was in a creative coma for the month of November… mainly because I was on the fence about continuing this blog I’ve been doing. Although, I mentioned from my last communication, that I was going to combine both sites… I got numerous responses from others to keep this blog going (separate from TKAC site).
Then I recently asked my mentor about what I should do (after telling you I was combining the two). He said:
I think you thought logically to the wrong conclusion. :-)
I would keep them separate.
Gives you more options. A better business model.
Now since I value his opinion and he’s come to build multiple multi-million dollar businesses without borrowing any money… I’ll admit it was a dumb move (on my part).
Yet, I don’t know if it’s because of the holiday time. Preparing for the new year. The colder weather. The alignment of the stars or what…
But sometimes we think and/or try to outdo ourselves or just try to be different just to be “different.” My way of doing that was to stop this site. Work on some other stuff (besides “The Kick Ass Copywriter”) and… I don’t know about you, but it just doesn’t always work out like we want it to. Does it?
I guess for me, I think I struggle more with accepting our difference than sometimes even being “different.” You?
So I decided to pose a similar question like this, to a few people on my Facebook page. I asked them, “what do you do to think differently? Do you have a hard time w/ it because of how you’ve been programmed?”
Here’s what some had to say:
Cindie Eggersart said, “Great question Jared! If I need to handle a situation that involves someone else, for example…I imagine them and what might be their angle of thinking on an issue and go from there. If I am looking for an answer to a life situation, I imagine someone who excels in that arena and think about how they might handle it… I imagine it thinking outside an issue in a way.”
Dave Waite answered, “Never take the common path. It’s well worn and leads to nothing new. Be Your Own Creature.”
I’d be curious to see what you think.
How do you deal with being “different?” Thinking “different?” Acting “different?”
Do you even care that you’re “different?” Or are we all just cogs in a wheel?

TheKickAssCopywriter.com IS LIVE! YIPEEEE!
Ok so this isn’t really a blog post. It’s more of a video post that I wanted to share with you – more specifically about why the blogs have been slacking a bit. LOL!
It’s also got some tidbits of stuff that are really important to share. If you miss it in the video here’s some stuff I mentioned in it that you need to check out:
*Audiodharma.org (I’ve been waking up to each morning and before I go to sleep). Gil Fronsdal is my favorite.
*A book called, “Book Yourself Solid.” It REALLY does just that.
*I didn’t mention this in the video, but if you’re in the Seattle Washington area, need a great photographer and like the new pics… please consider Valentina Vitols. Tell her I sent you.
*Many people always pay compliments to the design (which I love and know is just as important as anything else). I pretty much do the creative direction but Michael Nobbs is the talent who implements my crazy ideas. SUPER great to work with and I highly recommend contacting to him if you need a great/talented illustrator.
Hmmm… let me think what else? I think that’s it for now. Keep rockin! Ok?
Oh and here’s the new site that I’m talking about and super excited to share with you:

The End of Spinning Your Wheels; Your Uncommon Mentor Guide.
There are so many people frustrated with their business, the job market, trying different ideas to “pay their bills,” increase their business through whatever means possible and…
It’s important for them to “make it work” than trying a new approach. So they get deeper in debt, settle for an unsatisfying job that drains them, or get so frustrated with not knowing how to succeed “in times like these,” without ever realizing that maybe the old conventional way just flat out doesn’t work anymore.
That is the traditional and boring way of thinking. Trying to impress people that you don’t even like to try to get ahead hoping that the harder you work the more things will eventually happen for you.
That’s the typical business person. Working harder rather than smarter, trying every imaginable means just to look like the hero.
This is how it works:
*Spend time in meetings listening to some manager or boss you can’t stand because… hey you have to (it’s part of what’s expected of you). When, lets face it, you REALLY know it’s a complete waste of time and you would rather be doing ten million other things.
*Pretend you are interested in what the company you work for does, but honestly you are just there for the paycheck or “great benefits.”
*Self hypnotize yourself into thinking you love your job, boss, or the work you do… but deep down, you REALLY wish you could lead the life you’ve always dreamt of leading (on your own terms).
*Smile at the right people (even despite whether or not you like them), just because you think you will get ahead in a job you can’t stand.
*Maintain a “positive attitude” even despite the fact that you’re miserable. Not only that, your company/boss really could care less about you, or your wants/needs.
*The company rewards your “job well done” with more work. Then they figure, “_____ does such a great job, why don’t you give it to them.”
*Sit in meeting after meeting thinking about what you are going to do with your Friday or Saturday night’s to try and forget about the rest of the days you are miserable.
Well, you do NOT have to live like that anymore or sacrifice who you are to just “pay your bills.”
The goods news is, when you actually find someone to help you live on your own terms, you’ll be ten times more productive and feel 100 times more alive than anyone you’ll ever meet in those types of jobs.
I’ve experienced too many people like this, and it just makes REALLY sad.
I’ve seen too many people work jobs they hate, only to “wait for the right time” that never comes. Usually what happens is some kind of disaster in their life brings them over the edge to make a change (death in the family, fatal disease, etc). Eventually this winds up happening to them and they say, “You know life is too important to live like this.”
Listen… at some point, enough is enough! You deserve more!
If you’re in a place in your life where you are experiencing this, I’ve designed a guide to help you get from where you are, to where you TRULY want to be in the most cost efficient and effective way I know how.
You can gain back your life, make a difference and choose to work or not work at your miserable job without spinning your wheels anymore. You can get someone to help you for free who has “been there and done that” without trying out a TON of different business ideas or spend thousands of dollars in seminars or “get rich quick” schemes to help you.
In other words, someone already has the map to EVERYTHING you want in life. All you need to do is find someone to help share it with you.
It’s time to let go of boring conventional ideas and finally live your life!
“Your Uncommon Guide to Finding the Ultimate Mentor” is now available.
Would You Rather Have a Job or a Life?
I was getting ready to work out this morning, when some guy on the news talked about how jobs are increasing and…
I don’t know why, it just bothered me. It bothered me because I think most people want a LIFE instead of a job.
So here a few quick ways to avoid settling for a job and getting a life instead:
1 – The next time you are on an interview and someone says, “It’s a great foot in the door.” Your response should be; “If it’s such a great foot in the door, then why don’t you take it!”
I’m honestly not sure how many people dealt with this, but when I used to temp, the person behind the desk interviewing me always used to say, “If you ‘prove yourself’ it could be a really great opportunity for you.”
The funny thing was, I ALWAYS “proved myself” but it was NEVER worth the “opportunity” they said it was.
2 – Form a mastermind group, get a mentor, or get unschooled.
Why?
3 – Replace an old friend with a new one.
Sounds a bit harsh I know.
However, I was meeting a friend the other day that accomplished more in first few months of being self-employed than when he worked at his “day job.”
What was the main reason for accomplishing so much in such a short amount of time? He replaced his old friends from the “day job” with new and exciting entrepreneurs for his new one.
So the next time you hear someone talk about the “new jobs being created” ask yourself this, “which would I rather have a job or a LIFE?”
